Courtney Culver drove south from Happy Camp on October 24 with her ex-boyfriend Terrance “Chiefy” McCovey to sell 15 lbs of cannabis in Eureka. Her father Richard Culver maintained contact with her but, he said, on October 27 the tone and spelling of the text messages suggested Terrance was sending the texts “posing as her.” On November 2, the text messages stopped and Courtney’s phone was turned off. Family and friends are concerned about Courtney’s well-being and fear for her safety.

Courtney is 24 years old, 5’ 9’’,  115 pounds, and has brown hair/eyes. She and Terrance McCovey left Happy Camp driving a dark blue Ford Escape hybrid with tinted windows (CA#8EPA770).

Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey said on the afternoon of October 7 the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Courtney’s mother Lisa expressing concern her daughter was missing. Lisa had last seen Courtney on October 24 at the Mechanics Bank in Happy Camp accompanied by her ex-boyfriend Terrance McCovey. She was supposed to return on November 2. The last text message from Courtney to her mother was from the day prior. At that point, SCSO took a missing person report.

Sheriff Lopey reported the agency “considers her endangered. We’ve put out a regional BOLO for the pair and entered Courtney into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.” Considerable resources have been dedicated to Courtney’s case including a Siskiyou County Detective Sergeant working directly with a detective at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Courtney is a mother of two small children and a student at the College of the Redwoods nursing program. Her father Richard described how she experienced “drug issues early in her life” but sought rehabilitation and became an active “Narcotics Anonymous participant” who is passionate about her children.

In the last few months, the children’s father Terrance McCovey came “back into her life”. In 2017 Terrance was arrested for a slew of charges including possession of a firearm, marijuana, and methamphetamine. In September of this year, he was once again arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Courtney and Terrance left Happy Camp on October 27. According to Courtney’s father, a  buyer initially offered “$800 per pound but Cheify thought they could get $1,200 from a different guy.” Richard encouraged Courtney to “come home” but was rebuffed. After Richard called and texted her in quick succession, Courtney demanded he “stop blowing up” her phone and insisted that his concerns were “upsetting” her and “making things harder”.

Around October 31, Richard began to question the authorship of the texts he was receiving from Courtney. “I started to receive texts that I believe were from him. Courtney is educated and spells well. When the number ‘8’ was spelled ‘ate’ I got suspicious”. Richard continued to receive texts until November 2, all of which seemed questionable.

Richard insists that Courtney had full intention to quickly return to Happy Camp. She had plans to go to Redding to ride a horse with her mother. “She was looking forward to Halloween. Her kids mean the world to her.”
